If you have ever wondered how RFID chips get their power, this video provides a nice demonstration of the basic idea:
When you are in the store (or standing next to the badge reader at work), there is a coil that is powered. Inside the RFID tag or badge there is a coil-like antenna. That antenna provides the power to the RFID chip so it can send out a little radio message.
