He has weighed as much as 1,316 lbs (597 kg or 94 stone) to set the world record, but has since started dieting:

Since starting his diet, Mr Uribe has shed 37 stone and rejected offers of gastric bypass surgery, determined to lose the weight through healthy eating.

He received advice from American doctor Barry Sears and decided to follow the Zone Diet which is high in protein and low in carbohydrates.

Mr Uribe said he had been in touch with Guinness about his potentially record-breaking diet.

    I think the thing that ticks me off most about these people is not necessarily the person that is overweight, but the people that enable these people to be as overweight as they are. You can’t get that big without someone hand-delivering to you the amount of food necessary to get that big. What are these people thinking? Even worse for the kid! How can any parent allow their child to get to that point?
