How the Speedo LZR swim suit works

by Marshall Brain

The suits are changing the sport:

Final count at swim worlds: 18 international records

From the article:

Reached by phone in England, U.S. national team head coach Mark Schubert said every world record in the pool could fall at the Beijing Games.

“I absolutely believe that’s a strong possibility,” he said. “It’s a combination of how everyone in the world has been swimming since last year, the fact that it is the Olympic Games and it’s so competitive, and that the swimsuit technology has improved in quantum leaps.”

Although the new suits are controversial:

Germans smell Olympic disaster because of new Speedo swimsuits

From the article:

German swimmers fear a disastrous performance at the Beijing Olympics because they will be wearing the wrong swimsuits.

The country’s Olympic trials have been overshadowed by the swimmers’ demands to be allowed to compete in the Speedo LZR Racer. Twenty-two world records have been shattered in the high-tech suit since its February introduction.

The Germans say their medal chances are bleak at the Aug. 8-24 Games unless they can wear Speedo instead of Adidas.

Should make for a fascinating summer at the Olympics.
