I heard about the game called Desktop Tower Defense on Fark about 6 months ago. I tried playing it. It is a lot of fun – sort of like “strategy performance art” at a simple level:
It was therefore interesting to see it get a GOTY award from Slate:
One of the things that make it interesting is that there is not an obvious solution. There are a set of unknowns, and as you discover the unknowns you create strategies, and those strategies only get you to a certain level. You try optimizing the strategy, and i only goes so far. That leads you to either: 1) seek to discover more unknowns, or 2) try other strategies. And then you implement your solution in real time. Definately a challenge at the “hard” level.
